4/5 Drama               Character Counts Plays

Project:  Students in small groups will develop, write and perform short plays based upon the 6 pillars of Character.  Each team will be assigned a particular character theme and will create a story that shows how that theme affects them as children.

Objectives:

To develop the collaborative creative process.
To write a performance piece with emphasis on Who/What/Where and a plot structure that has a Beginning/Middle/End.
To work in the dramatic rather than comedic mode.
To apply past acting work in physicalization of character and emotion
To develop higher critical thinking skills in selecting specific examples of
       character issues that apply to their own lives.

Groups will brainstorm ideas, work from a scenario (outline) using improvisation, make creative decisions involving roles and plot, write a script, rehearse and perform their plays for Open House.

Assessment: 

1.Weekly feedback from classmates and teacher as groups present works-in-progress.

2.Final presentations will be videotaped and replayed for the entire class to analyze    in their notebooks.

3.Students will write an individual evaluation/reflection on their groups efforts in their notebooks.
