4/5 Drama  -- Comedy Writing Project

Objectives: 

To develop an appreciation for word play and comedy.

To practice collaborative thinking, writing and performing.

To practice vocal skills such as articulation, projection and character voices.

Day One – puns

Define and give examples. 

Assignment:  Students will make up an original pun and present it the following class.

Day Two:  Students present puns

Each student will present their homework before the class.  Focus on delivery, audience responses and relative humor of each pun.

Discuss what makes for a successful pun.

Day Three - Five

Assign students to comedy teams.  Each team will write and perform a comedy duet of original humor.  The writing and rehearsing process should take two days with final presentations and analysis on Friday.
