Duet Acting Project


Objective:  In pairs, the students will select, analyze, memorize, rehearse and perform scenes from published scripts. 

Modified Thespian Individual Event rules (download the participation packet from this link to get the complete Thespian rules) will be used: 

1. The scene can be no longer than five minutes in length.

2. Students will introduce the scene by stating their names, troupe #, the title of the play and the
   author's name.

3. Timing begins when the introduction is completed.

4. Both actors must be fully engaged within the scene.

5. Rehearsal props and costumes are to be used. If you are going to use this piece in a Thespian
          compettion, you will not be allowed to use costumes and  only essential (mentioned in the script)
          props allowed.

6. All set pieces in the LIttle Theatre are available to create the setting for your scene..

7,.Final performances will be videotaped and critiqued by each student. 


The following criteria will be used to evaluate the work:

Collaborative Work Assessments

1. Scene selection is appropriate for both players.

2. Both players have read the play in its entirety and have filled out a scene and
          a character analysis work sheet. The results of this analysis will be presented to the class.

3.  The players remain focused during rehearsal time and complete the project
           within the allotted amount of time.

4. The players introduce their scene with clear and confident voices and demeanors.

5. The players have worked out actions that enhances the scene and the characters.

6. The players complete their scene within five minutes.


Individual Acting Work Assessments

1. Memorization -- are the lines delivered without hesitation or blanking out?

2. Projection -- can the actor's voice be heard at all times?

3. Articulation -- is every word delivered clearly and can be understood by the audience?

4. Physicalization of character -- has attention been paid to appropriate posture, walk, and gesture?

5. Emotional Truth -- do the emotions portrayed convince the audience of their truth?
