Monologue Project
Objective: The student will select, analyze, memorize, rehearse and perform two contrasting solo pieces from published scripts.
1. The combined selections can be no longer than five minutes in length.
2. The student will introduce the scene by stating her/his name, troupe #, the titles of the plays
and the authors' names.
3. Timing begins when the introduction is completed.
4. No costumes. Only essential (mentioned in the script) props allowed.
5. The only set pieces which can be used are two chairs.
5. Final performances will be videotaped and critiqued by each student.
The following criteria will be used to evaluate the work:
Selection and rehearsal
1. Scene selection is appropriate for the actor.
2. The players remain focused during rehearsal time and complete the project within
the allotted amount of time.
3. The player's introduction of his/her monologues is delivered with a clear and confident voice
and demeanor.
4. The player has worked out blocking that enhances the text and the character.
5. The player completes the scene within five minutes.
Individual Acting work:
1. Memorization -- are the lines delivered without hesitation or blanking out?
2. Projection -- can the actor's voice be heard at all times?
3. Articulation -- is every word delivered clearly and can be understood by the audience?
4. Physicalization of character -- has attention been paid to appropriate posture and gesture?
5. Emotional Truth -- do the emotions portrayed convince the audience of their truth?
