Hey Kids -- let's put on a Vaudeville Show!
This is a Vaudeville-style poster announcing the presentation of the class performance of their Vaudeville project.  You will find the actual lesson plans following the poster.
Lesson plans for the study of Vaudeville

Students will study the history, content and format of Vaudeville.  They will each write a report on a Vaudeville performer of their choosing and present their findings in a three page paper and orally to the class.  Students will apply their knowledge by creating Vaudeville acts to be performed as part of a class Vaudeville Day project.

Objectives:  The student will research and write about an era of American Theatre.
(Academic content connection in Social Studies -- US Immigration.  Explore what each wave
of immigration contributed to the Vaudeville stage (Irish, Italian, Yiddish, German, etc)

The student will analyze the form of Vaudeville and compare and contrast it to various forms
                  of drama.

The student will be able to describe the lifestyle of Vaudeville touring and compare/contrast
to contemporary forms of enertainment (Broadway road shows, rock and roll tours, etc)

The student will select a personal skill to develop into a Vaudeville act, either individually or
                   in a small groiup.

The student will work collaboratively to plan and present a Vaudeville show as a class
                   project.

Materials:  There are many useful books and videos that can contribute to an understanding of Vaudeville. Showing one of the "hey kids, let's put on a show" Our Gang comedies could be a great lead in to the project.

Make a list of Vaudeville names to post on a bulletin board.  Find pictures on the internet or photocopy from books.  Be sure to search out black Vaudevillians like Buck and Bubbles and Bert Williams.
